A committee constituted for the efficient management and development of hospitals
Hospital Management Committees (HMCs) are constituted in hospitals under the responsibility of Panchayats in accordance with Section 173A of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, and the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Managing Committees for Public Health Institutions) Rules, 2010. The tenure of the HMC ends along with the tenure of the Panchayat. Whenever vacancies arise, the Panchayat shall nominate new members to fill them. HMCs are empowered to make decisions necessary for the development and administration of hospitals. The committee must meet once every three months and maintain proper records of income, expenditure, and other relevant documents. The accounts are subject to audit by the State Audit Department.
