🌾 Landscape and Agriculture
Located about 6 kilometers northwest of Thrissur city, Adat is a picturesque area surrounded by low-lying Kole wetlands. Since these wetlands are submerged from June to December, the village gives the impression of a water island. The historic Enamakkal regulator protects this area from seawater. The main crops are paddy, coconut, areca nut, and black pepper. Agriculture is the primary means of livelihood for the people here.

✨ The Legend Behind the Name 'Adat'
There is a devotional legend behind the place name 'Adat'. This story is related to Kururamma, a great devotee from the famous Kurur Mana. Kururamma saw a boy who came to help prepare the offering (Naivedyam) for Guruvayurappan eating the offering. She shut that boy inside a pot. Later, she realized that the boy was Lord Sree Krishna himself. The region was later known as "Adat," which means "the place where He was shut in."

👑 History of the Royal Era
The history of the small kingdoms of Thalappilly, Chittilappilly, and Vannilassery dates back to the time of the Chera emperors. The area ruled by the junior king of the old Thalappilly kingdom later became Chittilappilly. The Adat panchayat of today was formed from five divisions of that small kingdom, which originally had 26 divisions. When the King of Kochi took over administration in 1762 A.D., it became known as the "Chittilappilly Pravruthi". Kottaparambu and Kottakkulam, which are reminders of the old administrative center, still exist in this area today.
